18 September 2021

Sustainable hygiene consumables for World Bamboo Day 2021

World Bamboo Day takes place on 18th September every year. The purpose of the day is to celebrate the versatility and beauty of the plant, while raising awareness of its uses.

Harnessing the power of Bamboo is an easy way to make a positive difference to the environment.  So, on World Bamboo Day 2021, why not pledge to make your business more sustainable by switching to bamboo-based hygiene consumable products?

What is Bamboo?

Bamboos are a group of giant woody grass plants that have a hollow stem. The stem of Bamboo has  a similar strength-to-weight ratio as timber. Therefore, it is frequently used to make a range of products, from furniture to fabric.

Bamboo is native on five continents, these are Africa, Asia, South America, North America, and Australia. However, it can be easily grown in the UK, where it is a popular garden plant.

Why is Bamboo a good material to use?

Bamboo is a very sustainable material to use in manufacturing because it grows significantly faster than other plants. It grows 30 times faster than more traditional trees and is an extremely renewable resource. It also produces 30% more oxygen and absorbs 35% more carbon than trees.

Growing Bamboo requires no fertiliser or pesticides. This makes it an eco-friendlier option than plants and trees that require chemical treatment to grow.

The Guinness World Record holder for Fastest Growing Plant belongs to a species of Bamboo plant that can grow up to 35 inches per day. The record holding plant was grown in the UK. However, the tallest Bamboo plant ever recorded in the tropics stood at a whopping 130ft.

The benefits of using Bamboo hygiene consumable products

  • Bamboo is naturally anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and odour resistant.
  • Bamboo is naturally hypoallergenic, making it suitable for sensitive skin.
  • Bamboo is a sustainable choice because it’s the fastest growing plant in the world,
  • Bamboo needs no fertiliser or pesticides to grow, so it doesn’t pollute the environment.

From toilet roll to kitchen towel, we use a lot of hygiene products every day. Products made from Bamboo are a more sustainable option than those made from other trees.

By switching one of your daily hygiene essentials to a Bamboo based option, you can make a big different to the environment.
